Governmental Affairs Committee

The Governmental Affairs Committee is actively engaged in legislative, regulatory, and policy issues that impact nurse practitioner practice and the delivery of health care in New York State. The Committee also educates public officials and the general public about these issues.  

The Committee is comprised of four sub-committees that focus on a specific area of governmental affairs: 

• State Legislative Subcommittee - focuses on influencing policies to remove practice barriers for NPs in New York State by working closely with the President/CEO and The NPA's lobbying team.  This subcommittee also coordinates grassroots efforts at the local level.  
• National Affairs Subcommittee - focuses on monitoring national issues that impact Nurse Practitioner practice.  This subcommittee also networks with national leaders and NP organizations around the country to address national issues and promote common interests.
• Managed Care Task Force - formed in 1999, this subcommittee focuses on promoting empanelment of NPs as primary care providers to managed care and health maintenance organizations. See the list of health plans credentialing NPs.
• Practice Issues Subcommittee - focuses on providing support, guidance and current information regarding practice of NPs in New York State.
