Overview

The primary goal of this course is to educate healthcare professionals to new advances in the perioperative management of cancer patients through lectures, didactic discussions, and workshops.

Optional Sessions
Attendees can select up to two sessions during course registration: 

Workshop Topics:

  • Transthoracic Echocardiography - Learn the FATE Protocol to assess patients in the perioperative period
  • Regional (TAP blocks, PEC blocks, Paravertebral) - Learn several regional blocks for intra and postoperative analgesia
  • Lung Isolation Techniques - Review and practice lung isolation techniques
  • Difficult Airway - Identify and manage the difficult airway with different modalities 

Case Discussions: 

  • PONV: The MSK Approach - Review the most effective therapies to prevent or treat postoperative nausea and vomiting
  • Goal Directed Fluid Therapy - Discuss specifics of GDFT and different technologies available
  • Ethical Issues - Discuss the unique issues involved in balancing medical treatment and end of life care.
  • Challenges of Sedation - Describe sedation techniques for patients undergoing various procedures outside the operating room. 

In addition to the workshops and case discussions, attendees canselect a small group tour of the MSK Josie Robertson Surgical Center for Ambulatory Cancer Surgery.

 

Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians, nurse anesthetists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the care of oncology patients in the setting of surgery.

  2. Review Methods of Perioperative Pain Management
  3. Discuss the Role of an Enhanced Recovery Program
  4. Review Techniques for Management of the Difficult Airway
  5. Discuss Building an Ambulatory Cancer Surgery Program
  6. Use of ECHO as an Adjunct Monitoring Tool
  7. Discuss Goal Directed Fluid Therapy
  8. Update on Perioperative Venous Thromboembolism
  9. Discuss Perioperative Arrhythmias

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when email notification is received by the MSK Office of Continuing Medical Education (MSK CME) at least 7 days prior to the first day of the course (cme@mskcc.org).

Cancellations or no-shows after this date are not eligible for a refund. MSK CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event we must cancel or postpone this course, we will refund the registration fee in full, but are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees incurred by airline/travel/lodging agencies. At any time, you may substitute another registrant in your place after contacting MSK CME with the relevant information.
