Continuing Education Credits

Goals & Objectives

  • Discuss the most common mechanism for drug-drug Interactions
  • Discuss techniques to ensure safe prescribing
  • Review cases involving prescribing errors and medical malpractice cases
  • Identify the challenges of attempting to use current evidence in patients with multiple comorbidities
  • Identify the limits of evidence for prevention of morbidity and mortality
  • List at least three structural issues in health care that limit NP practice
  • Identify the leading causes of end-stage heart failure
  • Recognize symptoms associated with the classification of heart failure
  • Discuss treatment modalities to prevent end-stage heart failure
  • Discuss treatment modalities for patients diagnosed with various forms of heart failure
  • Discuss various reasons to order X-rays
  • Discuss differences between CT, MRI, and PET scans
  • Discuss various cardiac testing modalities
  • Identify the differences between SIRS, Sepsis, Severe Sepsis, and Septic shock
  • Describe the morbidity and mortality of sepsis in relation to length of stay, current guidelines, cost to health care system
  • Describe the modalities of treatment of sepsis which include management, such as fluid resuscitation and pharmacological interventions
  • Identify patients at risk within their practice, when to transfer to a higher level of care, and to develop a heightened awareness with risk stratification based on current guidelines


About the Program Faculty

Wendy L. Wright, MS, RN, APRN, FNP, FAANP, FAAN: owner of Wright & Associates Family Healthcare @ Amherst and Concord, Partners in Healthcare Education. She is an Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner of over 25 years. She is a National Speaker at more than 1000 programs in 47 states.

Michael A. Carter, DNSc, DNP: Distinguished professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Michael is Adjunct Clinical Professor of Geriatrics at the University of Arkansas and Adjunct Professor of Nursing and Midwifery at Curtin University at Perth, Western Australia.

Kristine Anne Scordo, PhD, APRN, ACNP-BC, FAANP: Professor and Director AG-ACNP Program at Wright University College of Nursing. She has 35 years’ experience in treating adult cardiology patients. She is a well-known national speaker of 20 years.

Barbara M. Mills, DNP, ACNPC, ANPC, PNP, CCRN, PCCN: Director of Rapid Response Team/Code Resuscitation at Stony Brook University Medical Center. She is an educator and trainer for all nursing and physician staff. She is involved with IRB projects related to Code Resuscitation and response from the RRT team. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University.

Margaret J. Krepp ANP-BC: President of the Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State Region 7 - Long Island (NPALI). She is the Director of Advanced Practice Nurses at Huntington Hospital/Northwell. Margaret provides Primary care at West Carver/Prohealth. She is a member of Northwell System Advanced Practice Council and serves as the Legislative Liaison for the Nurse Practitioner Journal Club of Huntington.
