1. Keynote Presentation - Barbara Glickstein, MS, MPH, RN - Diversifying the Health News Media: Nurse Practitioners as Expert Sources

The media landscape has changed a lot in 20 years. So has nursing. Yet nurses and nurse practitioners remain invisible in health news stories. Learn how to disrupt the health news media by becoming media competent to amplify the voice of nursing and elevate the profile of your profession. Once of the competencies for nurse leaders and innovators should be effectively communicating key messages to various audiences, including the public.

This presentation is a call to action to raise the visibility of New York State nurse practitioners as experts in the media on health and social issues impacting the nation’s children, families and communities.

2. Using Malpractice Claims Data to Identify Risks in NP Practice - Michael Loughran, President, NSO

Malpractice data can be a powerful patient safety tool by revealing clinical patterns that contribute to medical errors and by enabling NPs to more accurately identify gaps in patient safety programs and make improvements to their practice. The presentation will give NPs insights into liability exposure based on specialty, location of loss, allegation and injury. The presentation will also include claim scenarios and risk recommendations to help create a safe environment for NPs and their patients.

3. NPA General Membership Meeting and Legislative Update

NPA President, David Goede, DNP, ACNP-BC and Executive Director, Stephen Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FAANP will give an update on the legislative agenda and its programs and accomplishments.
