Region 2 has completed the approval process for our Region 2 Board nominees for the November-December election with terms to begin on January 1st, 2019.

The board approved candidate for the position of President-elect is:

Susan McKelvey, MS, FNP-BC

I have been a nurse for 33 years and a nurse practitioner for seven. I have a background in critical care, emergency, trauma and outpatient nursing. I have worked in nursing leadership roles overseeing three emergency departments, an Intensive Care Unit and an Urgent Care
Center. I never got far from the bedside while in management and decided that I had to pursue a Masters in Family Health and become a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. I wanted to have a personal relationship with my patients. In 2011 I began my career as a Nurse Practitioner and
worked in a family practice office in Trumansburg, New York. This past February I decided to transition to an urgent care setting.

I have been a member of the NPA since joining as a student. I have been involved with the local Tompkins/Cortland group as a supportive member assisting with the budget for the past few years and coordinated and facilitated a one day seminar in 2016 that offered continuing education credits. I have more recently become active at the regional level though my committee work on the Bylaws Committee during the regionalization process as well as assisting with the coordination of the Region 2 Symposium: A Jackpot of Updates for Nurse Practitioners held in April 2018.

Throughout the course of my career I have been active in many professional organizations such as the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), The SafeKids Coalition, and the Delaware Valley Trauma Nurse Consortium (DVTNC). I held board positions while involved in the Pennsylvania ENA and the DVTNC. I have also been active in my community over the years and held a board position for two years with the Ithaca Shooting Stars girls ice hockey association.

I believe in the mission of the Nurse Practitioner Association and feel that my enthusiasm for our professional organization as well as my background can help the NPA Region 2 move forward to accomplish our goals.

The board approved candidate for the position of Treasurer is:

Melissa Skiadas, FNP-BC

I obtained my degree as a family practice nurse practitioner from Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University in 2009.  Since graduation I have worked in an internal medicine office.  I am currently serving as the lead provider of my office as well as being directly involved in multiple committees throughout my organization.  I have been an active member of the Susquehanna group since I was a Masters degree student.

I am currently serving as the Region 2 Treasurer and have played an important role in the transition to regionalization.  I have constructed budgets that have encompassed every groups needs throughout our region, been responsible for reimbursement to members, and fulfilling financial obligations of the region.  I am currently working on next year’s budget in addition to working on obtaining a new policy for insurance coverage. I am interested in continuing my current role as Treasurer within Region 2.  I will continue to provide financial support for our region and our members.

All Regular and Retired members will vote electronically in November via Electionbuddy. Per regional bylaws student members are not eligible to vote. An email link has been sent to eligible voters.  Electronic voting is open from November 15th, 2018 until December 13th, 2018 at 11:59 pm.
